Contract renewal management software that tracks the notice deadline, not just the end date

Renewals are rarely missed because nobody knew when a contract ended. They are missed because the date that mattered was earlier: the last day you could send notice. Agreementsoftware is contract renewal management software that reads the term and the notice period out of each contract, computes that deadline, and makes sure the person who owns the contract hears about it in time to decide.

The date that matters

End date, renewal date and notice deadline

Every auto-renewing contract has three dates, and a spreadsheet usually records only the first.

  • The end date: the last day of the current term.
  • The renewal date: the day the next term starts if nobody acts.
  • The notice deadline: the last day you can tell the other side you do not want to renew. It sits before the end date by the length of the notice period.

If you only watch the end date, you find out about the renewal when it is already too late to stop it. Contract renewal management software exists to watch the third date.

Worked illustration

Notice deadline arithmetic, step by step

Take a software subscription agreement with these terms. This is an illustration, not a real contract.

  • Effective date: March 1, 2026. Initial term: 12 months, so the term ends on February 28, 2027.
  • Auto-renewal: the agreement renews for successive 12 month terms.
  • Notice period: either party may prevent renewal by written notice at least 60 days before the end of the current term.
  • Annual fee: $24,000.

Count 60 days back from February 28, 2027 and you reach December 30, 2026. That is the notice deadline. Notice sent on December 31 is one day late, and the contract renews on March 1, 2027 for another $24,000.

Agreementsoftware emails the contract owner at fixed points before the notice deadline:

Alert Date What the owner has time to do
90 days before October 1, 2026 Check usage, ask the team whether the tool is still needed, start a competing quote
60 days before October 31, 2026 Open the renewal conversation and ask for a price
30 days before November 30, 2026 Decide: renew, renegotiate or cancel
7 days before December 23, 2026 Last call to send written notice

Notice the timing: the last alert lands just before the holidays, which is exactly when renewals slip. The alert schedule sees the calendar you do not.

Why the illustration matters for the budget

In this illustration, one missed notice costs $24,000 for a year of software nobody may need. A year of Agreementsoftware Plus billed yearly is $888. The arithmetic is simple: preventing one unwanted renewal pays for many years of the product.

From PDF to alert without typing a date

  • Upload the contract as a PDF or DOCX, or sign it through the built-in e-signature, which files it automatically.
  • AI extraction reads the term, the auto-renewal clause and the notice period, and shows the source sentence for each.
  • Check the fields and correct anything you disagree with. The corrected value drives the alerts.
  • The notice deadline is computed, the owner is set, and the alerts are scheduled.

Renewal alerts cover every stored contract on every plan, from Starter up. The AI part is covered on our ai contract management software page.

Beyond the alert

A renewal calendar the whole company can read

The dashboard lists upcoming renewals, contracts expiring this quarter and value by owner. On Plus and above, deadlines go to Slack and to calendars through an iCal feed, and obligation tracking adds reminders for dates that are not renewals: price reviews, minimum purchase commitments, insurance certificates, audit rights. On Pro, finance gets a renewal forecast export and reporting on contract value by counterparty and department, which turns next year's renewals into a budget line instead of a surprise.

Contracts that live in the right place

Alerts only work for contracts the system knows about. Our contract repository software page shows how every agreement gets an owner and a record, and our contract tracking software page walks through vendor and SaaS contracts, where most unwanted renewals happen.

Renewal management on every plan

Starter at $49 per month ($24 per month billed yearly) includes renewal alerts for every contract, up to 500 stored contracts and AI extraction for 50 documents per month. Plus at $149 ($74 billed yearly) adds obligation tracking, Slack notifications and the iCal feed. Pro at $499 ($249 billed yearly) adds renewal forecast exports and reporting. There is no free plan. Compare them on our contract management system cost page.

How is the notice deadline calculated?

From the end of the current term minus the notice period stated in the contract. For a term ending February 28, 2027 with 60 days notice, the deadline is December 30, 2026.

Who receives the renewal alerts?

The contract owner, by email, 90, 60, 30 and 7 days before the notice deadline. On Plus and above, alerts also go to Slack and appear in calendars through the iCal feed.

What if the contract does not auto-renew?

The end date still gets tracked, and you can add obligation reminders on Plus for any date, such as a date to start renegotiating a fixed-term agreement.

What if the AI reads the notice period wrong?

Every field shows its source sentence and can be edited. The alerts follow the corrected value.
